<B>Nolan Miller Four-Piece, Deep Garnet Moire Taffeta Travel Costume with Hat Worn by Elizabeth Taylor in <I>Poker Alice.</B></I></B></I> 1987; Jacket and Skirt: taffeta moire, satin, cotton lace; Under Skirt: taffeta; Hat: velvet, taffeta moire, silk flowers, feathers, lace; Jacket and Skirt Label: Nolan Miller; Dress Size: 4/6; Hat Size: No size.<BR><BR>Floor-length travel costume in a deep garnet moire taffeta composed of a jacket, skirt, underskirt and hat. The fitted, boned waist jacket, features a wide collar overlayed with black satin with horizontal ribbing. The jacket is closed with four large silk, braided buttons (reinforced with hook & eye between each button), coming down to an inverted "V" at waist. Straight sleeves are slit from cuff to mid forearm. The waist and sleeves are trimmed with a double row of black cotton "bobbin" lace with drops. The arm slit is outlined in a braided applique finished by two lace flowerettes. The jacket is lined with black satin. <BR><BR>The flat front skirt is heavily pleated at center back with a 9" train. The flat front has three diagonal tucks at side. There are 11 pleats at the back center closure, which is fastened with a hook & eye and snap. The skirt is finished with a 10" pleated ruffle attached to the skirt, edged at the top with black cotton "bobbin" lace matching the jacket. The skirt is lined with garnet taffeta with a ribbon finishing the waist. The separate underskirt follows the form of the skirt with a 12" ruffle attached over the hem. It is finished with lace at the hem and the header of the ruffle.<BR><BR>The hat accompanying this ensemble is asymmetrical in black velvet. High rim on the left side slopes down to the right exposing a bouquet of garnet flowers and feathers anchored by a black velvet and garnet taffeta moire bow set on a bed of black lace resting on the low crown. The black lace cascades down the back over a black velvet and garnet taffeta moire bow attached to the back of the hat.<BR><BR>This travel costume was worn by Elizabeth Taylor as "Alice Moffat" in the 1987 made-for-TV movie <I>Poker Alice.</B></I> Included with this lot are two pencil drawings. One is of the dress with views of front, back and a view with a garmet not included, and has fabric samples pinned to the corner. The drawing is labeled "Elizabeth Taylor, Poker Alice" and is signed Nolan Miller. The second drawing in marker and pencil is of the hat shape with a sample of the garnet taffeta moire pinned to the right top corner. There is also a copy of the first pencil drawing with work done to the hat in black marker. In Very fine condition. The jacket has some fraying at the placket, and pulled distortion of the fabric below bottom button. The skirt has a pull in the fabric on the right back. On the underskirt is some color bleeding from the garnet taffeta along the train hem. <I>From the Nolan Miller Collection.</B></I><B>Condition Report:</B> Normal signs of wear as appropriate with age. The jacket has some fraying at the placket and pulled distortion of the fabric below last button. The skirt has a pull in the fabric on the right back.
