No Trust Political Sample Cigar Label by O. L. Schwencke, New York. Full color lithographed 8" x 5.75" inner label with gold-embossed highlights. A determined Roman calmly prepares to brain a struggling dragon with a hammer. At their feet are spilled cigars, an overflowing bag of gold coins, and scattered tobacco leaves. Factory and domestic scenes complete the graphics. In 1890, the Sherman Antitrust Act was passed to prevent the formation of monopolies detrimental to consumer welfare. Populist opposition to the excesses of railroad and oil barons was such that an antitrust cigar could be marketed. A few light stains and a barely visible crease in the upper right corner. Very fine condition.

Shipping: Small Flat (view shipping information)
