Ninth Plate Tintype of New Orleans Dandy (Krainik 388), pencil date inscribed behind image “June 25th 1860”, housed in thermoplastic case embossed on both sides with “The Blind Beggar”, Krainik 388. The photograph’s subject, a rakish young man, wears a fancy embroidered waistcoat over striped cravat held in place by a gilded stickpin. Within a year this stylish fellow would likely be on a troop train bound for Manassas Junction, Virginia. Of considerable interest is the local photographer’s label pasted inside the case, attributing this portrait to J. W. Petty’s Gallery of Art in New Orleans. A very early tintype made during the heyday of the ambrotype. Good condition with expected wear to case.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
