Nineteenth-century Baseball. Richly col
Nineteenth-century Baseball. Richly colorful group of three different, mint baseball scorecards, c. 1880. Chromolithographed baseball scene one side, unscored grid on other, with spaces for 10 innings, "Batsmen," "Where Played," "Base Hits," more. 5 x 5 -1/2 , never folded. Showing: "A High Fly," with fielder in red and white striped leggings and shirt leaping, as he catches the ball barehanded A moment of suspense as pitcher winds up, with "Two out, Two Strikes & Three on Bases," his teammates on edge in background First Baseman, wearing matching blue cap, scarf, and leggings, implores, "Put it Here." (Fourth in set not present.) Red printed initials "WD" the only clue as to issuer. Advertising on back panel of "Dyer & Co., Dealers in Sporting Goods Generally - Base Ball, Cricket, Foot Ball, Lawn Tennis, Archery, Croquet - Lawrence, Mass." Trivial soft bend at upper right tip of two cards, else pleasing toning, and extraordinarily choice condition for a period item of any genre.
