New York Nimschke Style Engraved Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Single Action Spurtrigger Revolver, #11384, .32 RF cal., 6-shot non-fluted cylinder, 6'' barrel, originally silver plated, smooth rosewood grips, barrel address marked ''Smith & Wesson, Springfield, Mass.''. As over 7700 were mfg'd between 1861-1864, it is our belief that this revolver was mfg'd during the early portion of the Civil War. Records show that the 1864 production serial number cutoff was #29359. Light to medium coverage Nimschke style scrolls are neatly executed on iron frame, forward edge of cylinder, barrel flats, and at muzzle; light treatment to backstrap and butt. (See page 40, Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.) A popular Civil War sidearm often privately purchased by Army officers. Condition is good to very good retaining little original finish but with the engraving scrolls remaining quite clear and well defined. Matching grips retain approx. 70% original varnish. Upper hinge pin!
shows professional concave modification which detracts little. Action remains crisp and tight, bore is fair. Est.: $1,800-$2,500.
