The "Mission Swirl" pattern results as the potters threw lumps of several colors of clay on the wheel. The colorful clays used were naturally occurring clays found in Arkansas.

The body of the vase was made by mixing both yellow-brown, blue-gray, and off-white colored clays. The swirling of the clays gives each piece of Mission Swirl its unique design. This mixture is the main focus which inhabits the vase form.

This vase is 8 1/2 inches high and 4 1/4 inches at the widest point. It is 4 inches across the top and has a 3-inch base.

This vase is in excellent overall condition. It does have a small kiln "kiss" on the rim. There is a small stain on the interior which appears to be removable.

This vase is not marked, as some early Niloak Mission Swirl was not--before the later impressed marks were used. Paper labels were also used of which this one is no longer present.

This will make a great addition to a Niloak Pottery collection!
