false-embroidered in army blue, red, dark olive, light olive, tan, and pale rose, woven on natural hemp with a natural cornhusk ground. Designs are sixteen nested, saw-toothed rectangles in staggered pattern; reverse, false-embroidered in army blue, red, pale rose, and green against a natural cornhusk ground that alternates with brown horizontal cornhusk bands, designs of twenty-four vertically stacked rectangles, primarily of red and blue wool with occasional green or pale rose wool. Drawstring missing; 17" wide at bottom x 14.5 at top x 24.25 long. Western Reserve Historical Society records indicate this bag was collected by Abram Garfield (1872-1958), son of United States President James A. Garfield. Good with top missing edge, several holes from replaced leather carrying strap, some insect damage to wool with approximately twenty percent loss scattered over bag.
