This large platter has imagery from a ceremonial scene, with traditional figures surrounded by lotus flowers, with red sun. Around this are other figures worshipping, along with a snake, and a goat. Encircling the rim are the signs of the zodiac. Artist: Ney Macminn Signature: In gold paint, with letters appearing on the inner rim in between the zodiac symbols Medium: Acrylic on black painted metal oval tray Dimensions: 24 x 30 inches Condition: Very good, with some light wear, and a few slight dings Ney MacMinn was on the faculty of Northwestern University in the English Department from 1925-1967. He wrote several books, including Creative Thinkers, a three volume series about 19th century English writers. He retired in 1960, and spent the rest of his days living on a houseboat on the Seine River in Paris, France. He died in 1967. We are not aware of other artwork by this late professor, and we would consider this tray to be something truly special.
