Newton Arms Bolt Action Rifle, #1813, .256 Newton cal., 24'' barrel, blue finish, checkered Schnauble walnut stock, period red rubber butt pad marked ''Hawkins'', double set triggers, steel grip cap, hinged floorplate, sling swivel eyes, with Lyman 48 rear sight and brass bladed 03 Springfield type front sight. Top of barrel marked ''Newton Arms Co., Inc./Buffalo, N.Y.''. Charles Newton was known as the ''father of high velocity'', and his technology spread across the world to every producer of high-powered sporting rifles within a short period of time. It is interesting to note that any manufacturer who adopted his techniques did so without crediting Newton. Of the approx. 3000 rifles mfg'd in Buffalo, NY, approx. 62% were in .256 Newton. Condition is very good retaining 95% thinning blue with most of the losses in actioning areas. Stock with scuffs, scratches, and some oil darkening near metal surfaces. Stylized ''OPF'' monogram to right cheekpiece area. Action is smooth, bore is very good and should clean. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (C&R)
