<B>Newport, NY</B></I> - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 598 <B>The NB of Newport</B></I> Ch. # 1655<BR> Although chartered in 1865, this institution, nestled in an obscure Herkimer County location, produced just the small number of notes needed to ensure its role as the sole issuer here. The latest census shows just four large examples extant from the bank, with only one such piece offered since 1985, with that note grading About Good. This newly discovered specimen is offered for the first time, and should see considerable bidding from those collectors who have long hoped for a decent large example to surface from here.
