Slave receipt pertaining to the sale of slaves to one Meredith Kendrick of Coweta County Georgia. A list of his slaves can be found in the below links, on this list the slaves found in the letter are documented. Meredith fought in, and died during the Civil War, he fell at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, a Major of Company C 3rd Battalion Georgia Infantry Confederate States of America. Kendrick Three Thousand Dollars in full payment for the five following negroes. To wit Peace a large black woman about thirty years old and her four children. To wit Polk and Wash. twin black boys about 10 years old. Silvia a yellow girl about 6 years old, and Alonzo a yellow boy not quite 1 year old. The right and title to which said negroes, I will forever warrant and defend unto the said Kendrick against the claim of yourself, and the claim of all other persons. As Witness my hand and seal.
