This is a rare original S. Newhouse Oneida Community, N.Y. No. 2 1/2 River Otter Trap. The trap is from circa 1865-1888 and shows good rare condition. This trap was made during the life of Sewell Newhouse and most likely handmade by Newhouse himself. Incused pan with large teeth. Has a single spring and chain as it would have been set in wet areas (spring marked Newhouse). This is an authentic original rare trap. Measures 35" long with a 4.25" plate. Pan reads, “S. Newhouse Oneida Community N.Y. PAT REG OFF. No. 2 1/2.” Scarcely seen rare size of trap.
