Phisterer, Frederick. Albany: State of New York, printed by J. B. Lyon Company, 1912, third ed., 5 vols. and index. Large 8vo, blue cloth with gilt spine. Vol. 1, pages 1 - 896, color frontis of Phisterer, first leaf is announcement of the death of Phisterer in 1909; vol. 2, pages 897 - 1808, color frontis of Merrimac and Monitor battle; vol. 3, pages 1809 - 2704, color frontis of building pontoon bridge at the Battle of Fredericksburg; vol. 4, 2705 - 3616, color frontis of Storming Missionary Ridge; vol. 5, pages 3617 - 4499, color frontis of mounted General Philip Sheridan at Five Forks; and index vol., 376 pp.

The most populous (and by the mid-19th century, the wealthiest) of the states, New York had a militia that outnumbered the U.S. regular forces by the beginning of hostilities. Phisterer's truly monumental endeavor documents New York's contributions to the preservation of the Union, and remains to this day the primary compilation of the men who served.

Condition: Some shelfwear, only minor toning. Excellent color on frontis plates.
