It was distributed as the World's Fair opened, and includes the first published appearance of the Sandman. As if that wasn't enough to make the case, it also features an early Superman appearance (he's even blond on the cover), and Zatara and Ginger Snap by Bob Kane. Most comics of the day sold for 10 cents, so this 25-cent book didn't sell well at the fair. The price had to be dropped and freebies thrown in to get the kids to buy it. Hmm... It takes a bit more than a shiny quarter to buy it now, eh? <OVERSTREET <b value="$4,200;" 6.0 FN 4.0 VG 2003>Estimate: $2,500-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
