New York Transportation Co. Issued, 100 shares, low no. 594, May 22, 1902, orange and black. Finely steel-engraved vignette of street car and open-drive tiller-steered taxicab. Miniature livery on street car, "Manhattan - Westchester - Bronx / City and Suburban Service - Metropolitan Express Co...." Signed by Pres. Henry Sanders and Treasurer W.K. Ryan(?). Possibly the "New York Electric Vehicle Transportation" described in the Standard Catalog: "The likelihood is that the company functioned as an automobile leasing organization and did not itself manufacture automobiles." Shares assigned on verso to Dorothy Whitney Straight, possibly of the wealthy Whitney family, which underwrote the Electric Vehicle Co. (1897-99), pioneers in electric taxis in Manhattan.
