New York Stock Exchange Invert and International Rarities Auction

Auction Details

In everyone’s life there are certain milestones that one never forgets. In my 43-year career in philately, our auction house being chosen to offer the recently discovered New York Stock Exchange Inverted Center sheet is a major milestone. The discovery of an inverted center stamp, especially in the United States, is an event that has taken place only a handful of times since the initial issuance of U.S. stamps in 1847. The fact that this new invert occurred on a stamp honoring one of America’s most important financial institutions only further enhances this error, and the fact that only 28 of the NYSE inverts are known means that this invert is almost four times more rare than the Inverted Jenny or CIA inverts. Of the regularly issued stamps with inverted centers of the United States, this invert is number one in terms of fewest copies known. The consignors of the NYSE Invert have pledged that a portion of their proceeds will go to charity, including a fund for families of September 11 victims.

In addition to this and other rarities from the United States, many loyal consignors from around the world have also helped contribute to the International Rarities section of this sale. It has been our pleasure to assemble this auction of wonderful philatelic gems that are just too numerous to mention here. Our efforts have resulted in the compilation of numerous rarities into a sale with tremendous concentrated value that is sure to impress even the most astute members of the stamp community.

The auction will be broadcast on eBay Live, simultaneously with the floor bidding in New York, thereby allowing eBay’s 42.4 million users to have the opportunity to participate in this milestone sale. I look forward to your participation in this auction, whether in person at The Plaza or through absentee bidding.
