<B>New York, NY</B></I> - $1 Original Fr. 381 <B>The Union Square NB</B></I> Ch. # 1691<BR> Tom Flynn obtained this rarity from our May, 2000 Rosemont sale, where your cataloguer described it as follows: " A superlative note which truly has it all. It is unique to our best knowledge and comes from one of New York's shortest lived banks, which lasted but two years before entering receivership in 1871. By 1915, only $219 was outstanding from here. We tried unsuccessfully for years to add this to our New York City holdings when we collected, and, although we knew where the note was, we were unable to obtain it in its one sale appearance in 1972. This is its first appearance at public sale in almost thirty years. In addition to being unique to the bank, it is also the only issuer in the City, and we believe the state as well, whose notes bear the ultra-rare Jeffries-Spinner signature combination. <B>Very Fine,</B></I> a true wonder note."
