The New York was an important mine located between Silver City and Gold Hill, just down the mountain a bit from Virginia City. A leather covered ledger book containing 340 pages of Receipts and Disbursements and correspondence. Information includes monetary totals for payroll, materials (water, lumber, hardware, etc.), expenses, (hiring of watchmen, hauling, surveying, assaying, legal services, etc.), and the payment of taxes. Based in Virginia City, the heart of Comstock Lode mining operations, materials and services were purchased from local companies such as the Virginia & Gold Hill Water Co., the Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber Co., Wheeler Hall & Co., the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, and others. Correspondence begins on page 323 and spans June 5, 1907 through December 11, 1908. All letters are addressed to William Bannan, president of the Consolidated new York Mining Company, from Superintendent William G. Douglass (who was concurrently serving as Nevada Secretary of State). The letters concern the drafting of funds on the Favor Agency Bank of California to cover monthly expenses.
