New York Jets. Unique engraved plaque f
New York Jets. Unique engraved plaque from estate of coach Weeb Eubank, who coached two of the most historic games in football history, the 1958 Colts championship game and the 1968 Jets Super Bowl victory. "22nd Yonkers Safari Honors Weeb Eubank, Coach, New York Jets, for his contributions to Babe Ruth and Little League Activities, Grossinger, N.Y., Jan. 15, 1967." 9 -3/4 x 1 5 x -3/4 thick, brass plate mounted on beveled mahogany-finish wood, with two torches and brilliant gold 3" wreathed medallion separately mounted above. A far cry from their neglected beginnings as the Titans of the Polo Grounds, Eubank's star quarterback, one Joe Namath, enhanced the prestige of the old A.F.L. The year after receiving this plaque, Eubank would inscribe the pages of sports history with a Jets victory over the Colts in Super Bowl III. Ironically, ten years earlier, Eubank had coached the Colts to victory in the 1958 championship at Yankee Stadium, regarded as one of the most important games in football history. Few fine scratches of plate, some tarnish of torches, else fine. A wonderful memento, probably displayed in his home.
