<B>New York January 6, 1776 (Water Works) 2s Gem New.</B></I> This is an outstanding example of this scarcest of the four New York Water Works issues. All its original embossing is intact, the margins are broad all the way around, and the mounting is perfect. Mounting in this case refers to the gluing together of the face and back of the note. The faces of the notes were printed on a fine buff stock and the backs on a much coarser, darker paper. The two pieces were mounted together prior to the printing of the note, which oft-time has led to wrinkles, holes, gaps, and other problems.
