<B>New York Governors Autograph Collection</B></I> consisting of approximately 16 signed items from 14 different governors- signatures, documents, and letters ranging in date from the early 1800s through the 1950s. An excellent group that includes: <B>Morgan Lewis</B></I>- fourth governor, an 1807 DS appointing an inspector of fish, with large intact state seal; <B>Alfred E. Smith</B></I>- a presidential candidate in 1928, an 8" x 10" SP (with some damage) and a 1915 TLS; <B>John T. Hoffman</B></I>- his career was ruined by connections to the Tweed Ring, an 1865 ALS mentioning <I>Sachem</B></I> Tweed!; <B>David B. Hill</B></I>- later a presidential hopeful, the first U.S. execution by electric chair happened during his term as governor, an 1889 DS; <B>Levi P. Morton</B></I>- 22nd vice president, a 1903 TLS; <B>William Sulzer</B></I>- was impeached and removed from office after only ten months as governor, a 1913 TLS whille in office; <B>Charles Evans Hughes</B></I>- later Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, a Signature at bottom of an <B>Elihu Root</B></I> TLS (Nobel Peace Prize recipient); and <B>Averell Harriman,</B></I> a Signature on an Executive Mansion card.
