New York Engraved Smith & Wesson Model 1 1/2 1st Issue Revolver with Ivory Grips

This was Smith & Wesson's initial production of the 32 caliber rimfire short revolvers (a larger version of the No. 1 .22 RF Model) that were produced from 1865 to 1868. This was also the only tip up model to have the cylinder stop on the bottom strap of the frame. Standard two-line address/patent dates on top of the rib and serial number on the butt. The sides of the frame, barrel lug and cylinder are decorated with typical New York broad leaf scroll engraving with a punch dot back ground. In addition there is a simple vine design on the side barrel flats, a zigzag and simple dot design on the cylinder and geometric designs on the back strap. All nickel finish and fitted with smooth ivory grips.

Very good with 90% nickel finish remaining, showing some scattered minor flaking and a few minor dings. The engraving is crisp and clear. A crack has formed on the right side of the hinge. The grips are excellent with some minor age cracks on the bottoms and a very pleasant grain and color. There is some play in the barrel. The markings are legible. The action is fine.
