New York Engraved Smith & Wesson 4th Model 32 Double Action Revolver with Spectacular Relief Carved
This revolver was manufactured in 1897 and featured 80% coverage of floral scroll and punch dot engraving covering the barrel sides, lug, frame, top strap and cylinder flats. There is also a simple design in the cylinder flutes, floral design on the top of the backstrap and a wavy line and circle design on the flute of the top rib. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel latch and top strap under the latch. Nickel finish with gold cylinder, trigger guard and hammer, casehardened trigger and nickel on the remaining parts. Pinned front and notch rear sights, and fitted with pearl grips with intertwined "CEM" carved into the right panel. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, 6" barrel, nickel finish, hard rubber grips at time of shipping and that it was shipped to Schoverling Daly & Gale, New York, N.Y., on July 9, 1897. The aforementioned retailers custom engraved S&W on order for many clients, some of which were very wealthy, as is the case with this highly embellished revolver.

Very fine. The gold cylinder, hammer and trigger guard, with 99% gold finish remaining with some minor flaking. The barrel and frame retain 85% original nickel finish with some scattered minor wear and flaking. The grips are excellent with a couple minor scratches and handling marks. Clear markings and crisp engraving. Mechanically excellent.
