From the remnants of the defunct and bankrupt Sutro Tunnel Company, a new company, the Comstock Tunnel Company, formed in New York City in 1889, and it issued new bonds. Theodore Sutro became its president. H. H. Thayer was its Secretary. Both men signed the Income Bond. Orange border with flowers in the corners. Vignette of the bald eagle with the American Flag as a shield under its feet along with arrows, an olive branch and a ribbon. Number 2482 in the amount of $500.00. Very good condition. Framed in plastic gold-colored frame measuring 14 ½” x 18 ¾”. Under glass. Has official pressed seal. The bond matured in September of 1919.
Theodore Sutro was a younger brother of Adolph Sutro. He was born in Prussia in March of 1845 and died in New York City in 1927 [feed://stceolfrid.byethost13.com/phpgedview/rss.php?ged=Windmuller.GED]. He came to the U. S. as a toddler in 1850 with his Mother and other siblings to Baltimore MD. He studied law at Harvard and became a very distinguished member of New York City society and politics. Not much is known about H. H. Thayer other than he was the Secretary and Treasurer of the newly formed company.
