VANDERBILT, CORNELIUS Jr. (1843-1899). Railroad executive. The first son of William H. Vanderbilt, Cornelius succeeded to the Chairmanship of the New York Central and Hudson River and the Michigan Central Railroads. Upon his father's death, he came to be regarded as the head of the family and the chief director of its railroad empire . He constructed "The Breakers" in Newport, Rhode Island and contributed greatly to numerous philanthropic endeavors. VANDERBILT, WILLIAM K. (1849-1920). Railroad executive; Second son of William H.
