Partly-printed capital stock transfer receipt from the office of the New-York Central Railroad Company, one page, 10.5 x 14.75, dated January 17, 1868, which finds Daniel Drew assigning and transferring a total of seven shares. Signed at the conclusion by a secretary on Drew's behalf. In fine condition, with toning along the right edge.

Respectfully called ‘Uncle Daniel’ on Wall Street, Daniel Drew (1797-1879) was a noted New York businessman, steamship and railroad developer, and financier who became known, perhaps notorious, for his stock market speculation and manipulation. He’s also popularly credited with introducing what would be called ‘watered stock’ to Wall Street, describing company shares that were issued by false means including counterfeit stock certificates and unauthorized stock release, resulting in a dilution of ownership.
