ALS from Ransom Fish of the 2nd New York Heavy Artillery. Accompanied by cover. Letter, datelined 16 August 1865, Fort Whipple, Virginia, reads in part: ''...Dear dauter I take my pen in hand to give you good advice and I hope you will take it and lay it to hart...I want you to bee have yourself and kep out ov nasty scrapes and bad company your credit is all that you have got to take you thru the world and probberble all you will have. I hope you will bee wise for your self and serv the lord and live in such a manner that if we nevr meet a gin on earth we shall in heven. you wanted I should tell you who directed them letters his name is mr flood a man about fifty I should think...'' Ransom Fish mustered into service on 30 March 1864 and mustered out on 29 September 1865 at Washington, D.C. The 2nd New York Heavy Artillery saw action at North Ana, Cold Harbor, Totopotomoy, the Crater, Deep Bottom, Boydton Plank, Ream's Station and Appomattox. Single page ink letter measures 5'' x 8''. Small bite at bottom edge and very light overall soiling. Excellent condition.
