New Orleans Society. Highly unusual com
New Orleans Society. Highly unusual composite panoramic photograph, "McFarlan at the Auto Fashion Show, New Orleans, La., 1920," with four views of this costly car's appearances in a vanished world. Overall 9 -1/2 x 41 -1/2 oblong, comprising four large scenes, featuring different McFarlans, each with its trophy, surrounded by well-dressed New Orleans socialites in flag-draped grandstands or on racetrack grounds. "First Prize Sport Class," "First Prize Closed Car Class," and "Winner of Grand Prize." 1920 Louisiana license plates visible on three of the four cars. In original wood frame, sans glass. White patches of delaminated surface due to old water damage, affecting about 15% of three of the four images, but still handsome, displayable, collectible, and rare. Rich contrast. Probably displayed in McFarlan's New Orleans salesroom, the water damage perhaps remnants from an earlier flood! Favored by celebrities, McFarlan went on to build a car with all exposed hardware finished in 24 carat gold, priced at $25,000.
