<B>New Orleans, LA- John Riddell, Post Master, New Orleans Post Office</B></I> 48¢ <BR> A truly rare note printed on green cardboard which served as the plate illustration for this denomination in Durand's <I>Interesting Notes About Denominations,</B></I> where Durand stated that this denomination was issued only in Louisiana and this note was presumed unique. A couple of other examples have since turned up in a sheet which contained one example of this denomination, as well as a strip in the Ford sale, which also contained one specimen of this denomination. The Durand collection lacked any example.
