New Orleans Civil War Autograph Letter Signed concerning shipments of foodstuffs from Northern states to Union-occupied New Orleans. The four page letter (7.75" x 9.75"), dated May 1, 1865, is from Edward A. Yorke, wholesale grocer and commission merchant, 7 and 9 New Levee, New Orleans, to a Philadelphia financial firm regarding market prices for flour, beef, butter and other goods. The letter provides an interesting glimpse into the grocery trade along the Gulf Coast in mid-1865.
