Two stock certificates from each of two companies with mining operations in the state of New Mexico in the 19th century. Earliest is the New Mexico Mining Company, number 331, 150 shares, issued to David H Gildersleeve on April 9, 1864, signed by Moses Kelly, secretary, and Ulysses Ward, president. Capital amount and the number of shares has been hand edited on the right margin to $2,000,000 and 20,000 respectively. No tears or creases but some slight darkening on the left third (see image for detail). Next is The New Mexico Mining Company, number 585, for 3 shares, issued to Mrs. Harriet Collins on August 25, 1868. A separate note accompanying this certificate indicates the recipient lived in St. Joseph, Michigan, and the certificate was sent by mail. In the remarks is noted that it was issued under Resolution [of] March 2nd, 1868, and that she had paid the calls of March 2nd and April 22nd 1868. It also notes this was erroneously issued to F.W.J. Also in this lot are two certificates from the Massachusetts and New Mexico Consolidated Mining Company, the first, numbered 3125, was issued in Portland, Maine, on March 23, 1882, to Wilson W. Fay [& Co] for 300 shares and signed by [?] Abbott, secretary, and Isaac B. [?], president. The official's signatures are squiggled over in the same gold-toned ink as the large "Cancelled Aug 2[7?], 1882" across the center. On the reverse, Wilson W. Fay & Co. sold, assigned, and transferred this stock to A.S. West of Boston on August 22, 1882. The last certificate is from the same company, numbered 4454, and issued for 500 shares to H.L. Adams on March 26, 1883. It is signed by [?] Abbott, secretary, and E. H. Wilson, president. On the reverse, the original owner of the stock, H.L. Adams, agrees to sell, assign and transfer all 500 shares to Chas. F. Adams on Sept. 13, 1883. Both of these stock are in excellent condition with no tears or deep creases.
