New Jersey Suffrage Campaign Scrub Brush This scrub brush, which was made by Bradley and Smith of New York, has the words “Vote for Women Suffrage October 1915.” This locates this as part of the New Jersey campaign, which forced a referendum on October 19 of that year. There seems to be some contradiction in using a scrub brush to advertise “Women’s Rights.” On the other hand, some suffrage organizations made it a point to argue that giving women the franchise would not encourage them to seek out “men’s roles” but would enable them to be more effective mothers and homemakers. This brush is in excellent condition, and the only known example to appear on the auction market. From the Frank Corbeil Collection.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
