New Jersey Marked Remington New Model Army Single Action Percussion Revolver, #71461, .44 cal., 8" octagon barrel, blue finish, brass trigger guard, smooth walnut two-piece grips, "pinched" blade front sight, and fixed "V"-notch rear sight. Left side of the barrel at the breech is marked "N.J". With several small inspectors proofs scattered throughout. Top of barrel is marked in three-lines "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION NEW YORK. U.S.A./NEW-MODEL". Matching visible numbers on left side of the grip frame and underside of the barrel. Overall condition of this revolver is very good, retaining a significant amount of thinning and toning blue finish on the barrel and loading lever, which also displays scattered spots of patina and mild erosion. Barrel address and New Jersey markings are clear. Frame and cylinder with a combination gray/brown patina. Brass shows a pleasing uncleaned patina. Grips with scattered moderate impressions, other typical marks associated with age and use. Finish on the left grip shows some darkening and light texture. Action is crisp and cycles smoothly. Bore is fine with clearly defined rifling. One of approx. 1,000 purchased by the State of New Jersey. Est.: $1,500-$1,800. (Antique) (Michael Strietbeck Collection)
