They had previously been partners but Robert, who was a Tory, severed the partnership in 1774. We have never been quite sure of the origin of these counterfeits as the printing, paper and signatures are all consistent with the genuine pieces. In any event the value of the counterfeits and genuines are virtually identical. A totally problem free example and almost never seen in this high a grade.
