New Bedford Ship Papers Signed By Monroe, Adams
New Bedford Ship's Papers With Monroe and Adams Signatures. Document Signed on partially printed vellum. Signed "James Monroe" as president and "John Quincy Adams" as secretary of state, one page, 11.25" x 15", Washington, D.C., August 3, 1821. Papers for the ship Camillus of New Bedford, Massachusetts, attesting to her legitimacy as a merchantman of the United States. Abram Gardner is named the ship's master and the vessel is described as having "...no guns navigated with Twenty Two men...". Two maritime vignettes, one a harbor scene and the other a frigate under sail, illustrate the document. The upper engraving bleeds off the document's scalloped top edge. An embossed presidential seal is affixed to the lower left corner. An excellent opportunity to acquire two presidential signatures at once. One tiny perforation in left margin, smoothed folds with light soiling, else fine condition.
