Lot of 2 padlocks: 1) Riveted Adlake manufactured switch lock. Spring loaded front key drop marked “Adlake”. Shackle rear marked “N” and “17” and the shackle rivet is marked “S” for Switch. The rear body is marked “NN RY/ PAT 2040482” and the U.S. Patent Office information indicates that the padlock was invented by Andrew T. Hagerty, who filed the patent 11 March 1935. Adams and Westlake, a transportation goods manufacturer, has been in business since 1857. Nevada Northern Railway operated from 1905-1983. This lock likely dates c. 1936. Two metal security tags are attached to the chain fob and short chain length. The first is marked “Nevada Northern RY. A-85373” and the other is marked “Kennecott–Nevada 93504”. 2) Older riveted brass heart shaped lock. Shackle front marked “NN RY” and front key drop embossed “Adlake”. The chain fob is rusted through and the chain is missing. Rear shackle marked “241”. The matching key handle is marked “A. & W. Co./ Chicago” and “64” and “S” for Switch on one side and “N.N. RY” on the other side. Someone has also carved “H M” into the key handle on the side with the company initials. Aso, a second NNRY key, otherwise unmarked, which does not have a sufficient diameter to fit NNRY locks, indicating that this key may have been punched to resemble an NNRY key. - Jacobitz Collection -59572
