Signed by the president, William Bourn, and secretary S. Pinkham. Not cancelled. Black border and print, yellow background. Two vignettes: eagle on shield (top center) and miners pushing cart out of mine (by Loomis, left side). Printed by Towne & Bacon. 5.5 x 10.25" Folds, two nicked corners, and some small stains. Very nice overall. William Bowers Bourn was a very successful mining engineer who came to California during the Gold Rush. By 1866, he was president of both the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company and the Imperial Silver Mining Company of Gold Hill, Nevada. Over the next three years, he added to his growing fortune with a series of lucrative investments in eastern Nevada's White Pine mining district. In 1869, Bourn capped his career by gaining control of the Empire Mine in Grass Valley. In 1874, however, Bourn shot himself in his SF mansion. His son (of the same name) came to Grass Valley in the 1870s and picked up his father's mantle. () State: California City: Nevada County Date: 1863
