This piece has signal lenses on all four sides, a brass handle, and a manufacturer nameplate: ADAMS & WESTLAKE COMPANY MAKER CHICAGO. This lamp has been repainted, and it appears the access hatch has been painted over. The railroad initials, N.C.B.R.R. are embossed near the top. This is a caboose signal lantern from the Nevada Copper Belt Railroad (1909-1942) which began building their forty-two miles of railroad in the fall of 1909. The line was successfully completed and in full operation by September 1911. The first twenty-seven miles of the road are in Mason Valley, one of the largest and most fertile sections of the State of Nevada. The line then runs through what is known as Walker River Canyon into Smith Valley, near the California border. - Jacobitz Collection -59553
