Nev., 1871, Ophir Mill, signed by MacKay, RN-B16A. 3) Bank of Calif., V.C. Nev., Sapphire Mill, signed by Hobart, RN-D1. Notes on the "Ophir Mill"- In 1860, this was the largest Quartz Mill on the Comstock. Located at Ophir City, it covered 3 acres, it was used to process ore from the Ophir Mine. In 1862 the mill employed 100 & had 36 stamps, by 1866 the mill had 72 stamps. Notes on the "Sapphire Mill"- Erected in the 1860's, 1/4 mile below gold Hill. It was Known as the Gagnon & Cos. Mill. By 1865, it had 16 stamps, in 1870 , it was down to 15 stamps, it processed ore from the Crown Point Mine. It was still in operation in the 1880's.City: Virginia CityCounty: State: NV
