Nagakanya, daughter of Muchalinda, the King of the Nagas (rain
givers and guardians of the waters). In Tibetan Buddhism,
Nagakanya is the "Goddess of Three Realms." Shown here, holding
a conch shell vessel, her casting is sculpted with fine details and
was likely finished by a gilt technique of fired gold that was
dissolved in mercury, which accounts for the lovely, colorful patina
of this work.
