Neolithic period, Liang Zhu culture, (circa 2000 BCE) greenish-white jade plaque (Gui), with superficial calcination. The plaque is decorated in bas relief with a central bovine type of a tiao tieh mask. Horizontal relief lines decorate the obverse side, as well. One central perforation allows the suspension of this plaque. Gui plaque is a symbol of imperial power and granted by the emperor to high dignitaries (See: "Jade, 5000 BC to 1912 AD, Guide to collectors", by Mircea Veleanu). Dimensions: 9.2" (23.5 cm.) length, 3" (7.5 cm.) width. Estimated value: $$5500-$7000.
