Neolithic Native American Celts c. 10000 – 4500 BC
Featured in this lot are these Native American celts from the Neolithic period, circa 10,000-4,500 BC. There are three celts in this collection. Two of the celts show porous surfaces attributed to a hammering tool. The third celt shows a smooth surface, denoting an axe like tool. Celt, a characteristic New Stone Age tool, is a polished stone ax or adz head designed for attachment to a wooden shaft. They were probably mainly used for felling trees or shaping wood. The condition of these celts is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of these celts range from 4" x 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" to 7" x 3" x 2 1/2".
