Signed and inscribed on the first free end page, “To Alan— Best wishes—Neil Armstrong.” Consignor notes that signature was acquired when he was a boy visiting Edinburgh in 1972, Affixed to the inside front cover is the letter he left for Armstrong, dated March 10, 1972, asking him to sign the book. Letter reads: “Dear Professor Armstrong, I live along the road from the Hotel where you are staying. I am eight and one of your fans. Could you kindly autograph my book of ‘Flight.’” Signed page also bears several collector’s notations including one which reads: “Autographed by Neil Armstrong; first man to land on the moon. (during a visit to Edinburgh. 10 March, 1972.” Signature has also been covered by a protective layer of cellophane, applied by the consignor shortly after obtaining the signature. In fine condition, with aforementioned cellophane and notations to signed page, as well as a bit of light soiling and toning, small separation along bottom of signed page and hinge, and tape to inside cover around edges of letter. The dustjacket, bearing an image of an Apollo rocket lifting off, also rates fine with a few small edge tears and protective cellophane sleeve taped to the edges.
