Neil Armstrong Signed First Day Cover postmarked September 29, 1967, at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida celebrating the release of Scott #1331-1332. This se tenant pair of stamps picture an astronaut walking in space tethered to a Gemini space capsule and commemorate the first U.S. walk in space by Ed White of Gemini 4. As is well and rightfully remembered, Neil Armstrong achieved great success on the Apollo 11 mission by being the first human to step on the moon. Most people probably don't remember that his earlier Gemini 8 mission in 1966 had some really scary moments. After a successful docking with the prelaunched Agena Target Vehicle, the Gemini capsule started rolling and it wasn't known if the crew would be able to recover from this problem that they found to be caused by a stuck thruster. They managed to control it though and had to make an emergency landing only ten hours after launch. This cover features a block of four stamps, is not cacheted, and is addressed to Dr. Coons. Very fine. From the estate of Dr. D. Owen Coons, Chief of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center Medical Office.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
