Near New Winchester Model 1873 Musket with Bayonet
Third Model Winchester Model 1873 Musket manufactured in 1896. The musket has the distinctive 30-inch barrel with front sight block that serves as a lug for the angular bayonet, full length forearm secured by three barrel bands, folding leaf, military style front sight and carbine buttplate with sliding brass trap. The barrel, magazine tube, barrel bands and receivers have the Winchester commercial blue finish. The loading gate and bolt are niter blue and the hammer, trigger, loading lever and buttplate have a color casehardened finish. The walnut stock and forearm have a low-luster oil or varnish finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENTED. MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." "44 W.C.F." is stamped between the rear sight and the receiver. The upper tang is roll-stamped: "{ MODEL .1873.} "in fancy letters with foliate devices at either end of the marking. The serial number, "570127B" is stamped on the lower tang behind the loading lever latch. The musket is complete with a bright-finished angular bayonet that fits the musket perfectly. The bayonet is not marked.
BBL: 30 inch
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 44 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 570127B
Condition: Near new. The musket retains 98% plus of the original blue finish on barrel, magazine tube, barrel bands and receiver. Wear on the blue finish is limited to some minor age spots on the right side plate. The hammer, loading lever, trigger and buttplate retains nearly 98% of the original color casehardened finish. The stock and forearm are in near new condition with raised grain and virtually no handling or storage marks. All of the markings are sharp. The bayonet is in the same near-new condition as the musket and has nearly all of the original bright finish. This is an original and nearly new example of a Winchester Third Model 1873 Musket and Bayonet that would be extremely difficult to improve upon.
