Near New Pre-War 1934 Dated Mauser Banner 98K Rifle with Bayonet and Scabbard
This is a nice example of a early pre-war, pre-Nazi Mauser Banner rifle. These rifles were actually transition rifles between the very first commercial Mauser Banners and the actual Banners, purchased by the German Army for initial use. The top of the front receiver ring is marked with the Mauser Banner logo over 1934, for the year of manufacture, the left side is marked with the commercial "Crown over B, U, G and N'" proofs along with the early serial number followed by a diamond shape. The receiver side wall has the commercial markings of "MAUSER -WERKE A.G.OBERNDORF A.N." and the left rear of the barrel is marked with the serial number followed by a diamond shape. The stock and handguard are the correct pre-war walnut version with the finger grooves on the sides with the flat metal buttplate. It has all the correct early milled components, barrel bands, trigger guard, and floor plate. It is complete with the original cleaning rod and an early unmarked commercial style 98K bayonet with bright blade and metal scabbard. The bayonet is completely void of any markings, but it has the early style pre-war bright and the handles are also of a nice light honey colored walnut that matches the rifle.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 79727
Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 97% of the original blue finish with some thinning on the bolt handle and some wear on the bolt from normal usage. There is some scattered light spotting on the barrel. The stock is very fine with several quarter moon shaped dents and a small area of cracking (flaw in the wood) on the right rear, and overall a few minor dings and dents. The bayonet remains bright with a few minor dents in the handle and the scabbard retains 98% original blue finish with some light thinning and a number of small dings. Some of the markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
