Neal Adams and Dick Giordano - Original Cover Art for Detective Comics #419 (DC, 1972). Long before the gritty, ultra-realistic style that is currently status quo in comics became so popular, penciler Neal Adams and inker Dick Giordano were plumbing the depths of the art with their own brand of realism, opening the door wide open for all those who followed. And consequently they changed the way we looked at our heroes. Their work with Batman gave us a whole new perspective on the Dark Knight legend and their numerous covers together on the Detective Comics series were spectacular. Here is a great cover from the early '70s that is sure to thrill. "The Slaying Statues of Batman" features a man dropping off the end of a pier, tied to five Batman statues. The detail is terrific with a lot of texture and delicious inkwork. Overall size is 11.5" x 17" with an image area of 10" x 15". Some slight yellowing around the original logo and indicia paste-ups, but it's all still where the printer put it. Included is a copy of the original Detective Comics #419. This is your chance to get a great cover by these two industry ground-breakers. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
