This piece, ‘Venice’, was made in 1890 by the Italian artist Nazzareno Cipriani (1843-1923). It is matted. It shows a view of the bay in Venice with boats in the foreground and the palace to the right.



The piece is in good condition with only slight age-related signs of wear; foxing in the upper area. The watercolour painting is signed on the front, right, and labelled ‘N. Cipriani, Roma’. The piece is dated and dedicated on the left: ‘à Madame Zimmer Souvenir d’amitié – 1890’. The piece measures 30 x 51 in the wood frame.



Nazareno Cipriani (1843-1923)

Nazareno Cipriani was born on the 23rd of October 1843 in Rome and died there in 1923. His artistic career began with oil paintings and watercolours; later he took to historical and biblical pieces, but he also painted landscapes, figural genre scenes with architecture from Rome or Venice. He participated in a number of national exhibitions.
