Nazi "S/237" Code 98K Rifle with SS Markings

This is a very good example of an early 98K rifle as manufactured by the Berlin-Lubecker Machinenfabriken Werkes in Lubecker in 1937 that has been marked with various "SS" property markings. The top of the receiver is factory marked "S/237" the wartime code for Berlin-Lubecker Machinenfabriken over 1937, the year of manufacture. Over those markings it has been milled with a small "SS" Runes with a "Shield and Key" with the right rear breech end of the barrel marked in the same manner with a larger set of SS markings: a the double SS runes/ZZA4/ Deaths Head", with these types of proofmarks typically applied to replacement equipment issued from an SS replacement depot. The right side of the receiver has three "Eagle 26" acceptance proofs and the left side of the barrel and receiver have the Nazi Eagle firing proof and serial number. The rear sight base has three "Eagle 26" proofs on the right side. The side wall is properly marked "Mod 98" markings. The components are the early milled "H" pattern front and wide rear barrel bands with the milled trigger guard and floor plate, all having similar wear patterns with various non-matching numbers. The stock and hand guard are the correct early walnut versions with a cupped buttplate. There is a small Waffenamt proof on the right side of the stock and inside of the pistol grip area. It is complete with the original sheet metal front sight cover, and a post-war leather sling marked with a small Hebrew marking on the metal buckle.

Manufucture: Berlin-Lubecker
Model: 98K
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Guage: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 9039

Fair condition with traces of the blue finish reaming, showing even honest blue loss overall on the exposed metal surfaces. The stock and hand guard are both shows numerous handling marks and pressure dents from field use with visible proofs on the sides. As noted most of the parts are mis-matched, but show the same amount of wear indicating that they may have been together for some time. Additionally the bolt serial l number has been removed. Still an interesting rifle with some very unique "SS" proof/property markings, worth conducting further research on.
