Serial no. 179641, 7.65 mm cal., 4 i/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, hardwood grips. This is a later production Browning 1922 pistol as used by both the German army and Luftwaffe pilots and officers. It has the standard two line FN and Browning mark on the left side of the slide, with the addition of an "(H)" Heer stamp, "eagle/swastika/army test firing proof" and "eagle/WaA140" proofs. Fitted with fixed sights and checkered hardwood grips. Included with the pistol is a brown leather Luftwaffe-style flap holster (minus belt loop) with faint ink markings inside the flap, an extra magazine, and European Theater capture certificate for this pistol and a German sword (not included). The November 16, 1945 dated capture paper is made out to a "Lt. Col. E. Hemingway, U.S. News". As we can find no record of him holding an official rank in the military during World War II, we do not certify this pistol as having been the property of noted 20th Century author Ernest Hemingway.
